Dr. Franklin hails from Louisiana but was raised in a military family.  After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology he later transitioned to the great city of San Antonio, Texas; whereby, he received his master’s degree from University of Texas at San Antonio in Educational Psychology (Counseling) and Doctoral degree (PhD) from St. Mary’s University in Counseling. He has been a licensed psychotherapist since 2001. He holds a variety of professional certifications and licensures: Licensed Professional Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, Nationally Certified Counselor, Nationally Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, Certified Employee Assistance Professional, and notably as a Certified Case Manager. He tells the story of how his mother-in-law, who was an RN and a CCM, motivated him to take a chance and explore the CCM credential as he was at the time working as a Case Manager in an inpatient Psychiatric Hospital. He has had a variety of experiences with families, couples, and individual work. His professional experiences include working with employee assistance programs, inpatient mental health, university counseling, intensive outpatient programming, and with Military and Government healthcare. His specialties include clinical supervision, anxiety disorders, phase of life issues, neurofeedback/biofeedback, and LGBT issues. His clinical philosophy is to provide an environment in which individuals feel empowered to change the quality of their life, improve communication strategies, and create healthy relationships and wellness.
