From Principles to Practice: Ethical Approaches to Patient Safety and Equity
Time: 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM
Description
Ethical healthcare practice extends beyond individual decision-making—it requires a commitment to safety, equity, and justice in patient care. This session will explore the intricate relationship between healthcare ethics, social determinants of health, and systemic biases, providing case managers with critical insights into how these factors shape patient outcomes.
Participants will examine the ethical principles that drive patient safety, focusing on the responsibility to provide just and equitable care. We will explore how social determinants—such as socioeconomic status, access to care, and education—contribute to disparities in health outcomes and discuss strategies to mitigate these barriers.
Additionally, using real-world case studies and current research, this session will illustrate how institutional biases can impact care delivery and patient safety. Attendees will be challenged to reflect on their own practices and consider actionable steps to promote inclusivity and fairness within their organizations.
By the end of this session, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to navigate ethical challenges, advocate for equitable care, and enhance patient safety in their roles as case managers.
