Description

This session will explore what guardianship is, when guardianship is appropriate and explore the role of a guardian. A case study will be utilized to demonstrate the guardianship process and proceeding. Ethical concerns will be addressed related to working with families when a guardian is in place. Ethical dilemmas will be discussed related to end of care when the client no longer has capacity and conflict arises.

  • Define guardianship and describe differences in type of guardian appointed

  • Understand the ethical concerns inherent in a guardianship experience

  • Identify the challenges that can exist between a guardian and family members
