Worker's Compensation Nurse Case Manager
I have been a nurse for over 30 years with a wide variety of nursing experience in Med/Surg, Pediatrics, Public Health, School Nursing, Adult Ambulatory Care, Phone Triage, Population Case Management, Occupational Health Nursing, and Worker’s Compensation Case Management. My current position is a workers’ compensation nurse case manager working remote with both internal work injuries and external work injuries for a major health organization. Much of our caseload is for external employees. We manage any employee seen within our health organization within a geographical area. This includes employees seen in the emergency rooms, walk-ins, family practice, and specialties. Our role as case manager is to follow the employee from point of entry to discharge by updating the employer, the workers’ compensation carriers, and employees. We facilitate timely appointments, testing, and procedures to keep the claim moving through our health organization. This has provided a strong sense of community with area employers who then refer their injured employees to our organization for care. We provide timely updates to the workers’ compensation carriers to ensure services are “approved” and scheduled efficiently. This has built a strong reputation for our health organization among work comp carriers. All of this provides for improved customer service, better employee outcomes, immediate return to work policy, and financial gain for the health organization. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family in our country home, reading, gardening, fashion, and running.
